Final minute winner from the gaffer
13 August 2016
The Lambs welcomed the Bucks for the third match of the season, with Tamworth having not conceded and United having not scored in the first two run outs.
Andy Morrell was forced to make a change following injury to Green against Worcester and Newton came back into the starting eleven.
On the Telford side, former Lamb Rob Smith took his place in the dugout while ex players Dan Preston, Lee Fowler started for the visitors while Dave Hibbert was forced to sit out.
Tamworth kicked off proceedings attacking the Meadow Street End in the first half. With just 3:27 on the clock Dyer’s flick on and Taylor's persistence fed Newton in right of the box and he beat Montgomery with a low shot in off far post (1-0, 4 mins)
Tamworth kept the pressure up and forced a couple of corners which forced some quick defending from the visitors.
On 15 United’s Evans crossed low from right of Belshaw's box to the near post where Peers span on the ball and fired the equaliser past the keeper (1-1)
Midway through the first half 25 a cross from Mills to Dyer past the far post produced a good header from the striker which forced Montgomery into a save.
Dyer missed a good chance to regain the lead on 31 when he picked up the ball from Taylor and take a few short paces into the area and whipped his shot into the side netting.
A right sided cross from the visitors was met by the head of captain Havern on 35 but it went over the bar.
Tamworth pushed forward as the clock ticked towards half time and after a short drinks break when Williams needed treatment three minutes added time was shown.
Dawson was booked for a foul on Burns by the corner flag shortly before the whistle blew for half time.
The Bucks restarted the game having made one change at HT and The Lambs went on the offensive. A brave close range save from Belshaw denied Peers his second on 51 after Evans had drilled the ball into the box from the right wing.
Breslin’s ball down the left found Dyer on 55 and Newton nipped in to take a shot at goal, but it was of target.
Tamworth continued to push forwards and a freekick was awarded by the tunnel on 57 which couldn’t be touched goalward and Montgomery gathered it easily.
Tomassen was booked for tripping Peers on 63 and Dyer headed the deadball away.
Tamworth advanced and Clarke tried to set up Newton but the ball was cleared to Mills whose return drive at the target went out for a goalkick.
Peers tried a long drive at Belshaw’s goal on 67 but it rose over the target and troubled the travelling fans more than the keeper.
Both sides made a change around the minute mark and there were two more five minutes later, but not before Telford had tried to cause problems a freekick which Preston saw cleared off the line by Burns.
Preston then picked up a yellow card for fouling Morrell and as the ball came forwards both Morrell and Montgomery went up for it in the box but the whistle blew for a foul on the keeper.
Peers’ head connected a long freekick on 84 but it went wide of the mark and there were high hopes of a similar delivery from Deeney on 85 but his freekick into the box went straight to the keeper.
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and in the 91st minute Newton went up for the high ball in the box and it fell kindly for Morrell to half volley home into the almost empty net.
Telford forced a corner in the dying seconds but it was cleared away and the whistle blew on another three points.
