This ones for Rod as Lambs defeat Villagers*

FT: Tamworth 1    0 North Ferriby United

08 August 2015

* We were tempted to put 'Village People', who sang 'YMCA' and which is departing club secretary / general manager Rod Hadley's party piece as North Ferriby's nickname is The Villagers but decided against it out of resepct to the opposition, fans and club in general!

The Lambs kicked off attacking the Meadow Street end and after a freekick gave the visitors the ball in The Lambs final third, Strong made a direct run down the left and into the box past his marker and put the ball into the danger area for Nicklin to deal with.
Newton got his head onto a ball in from Durrell on 4 and it bounced back to the Ferriby keeper.
At the other end, hesitancy at the back allowed a cross from the left to fall invitingly for 6’5” Denton to strike and it took a deflection behind for a corner which was cleared. Morrell was brought down on the edge of the box on 8 and Durrell lined up the dead ball and flashed the shot wide of the part post.
A deep freekick into the Lambs box on 13 fell for Hone and he didn’t get a clean shot away but it did go goalward and needed to be plucked out of the air by Belshaw to prevent the opening goal.
First booking of the game came on 21 when Palmer put in one tackle too many, in front of the shed, and received a yellow card from the referee.
Green followed him quickly into the book when he challenged Middleton in the centre circle on 23.
Curtis was upended by Clarke on the half way line on 25 but did not get the booking the crowd expected and from the freekick a corner was forthcoming.
Durrell became the next player booked, on 30, and it brought a negative reaction from the crowd behind him in the Shed who thought differently.
Bolder drove low into the arms of Belshaw on 34 and Newton struck low forcing Nicklin to make a save 30 seconds later. Belshaw dropped to smother another low drive, this time from Bateson on 44, and two minutes added time were shown at the end of the half.

HT: Tamworth 0    0 North Ferriby United

Play restarted quickly, and Tamworth went on the offensive immediately, but Smith’s enthusiasm saw his elbow on Denton cost him dearly as the referee showed a red card on 50.
A dangerous challenge by Hotte on Newton on 53 brought a reaction from everyone on the field and terraces and resulted in a fracas on the field, lots of noise from the terraces, a yellow card for Hotte and a sending off for Bolder.
Newton struck from the left of the box on 58 and Nicklin tipped the ball over and from the play ensuing from the flag kick the ball fell to Durrell and he made no mistake with a low shot into the far left corner from the right of the area. (1-0, 60 mins)
Palmer's header was pushed onto the crossbar by Belshaw and hoofed clear of danger before the same player headed just over from the resultant corner on 66.
Play continued unabated with a couple of changes on both sides as the minutes ticked on. Neither keeper was called into action, and play was at times stop start.
From a freekick on the right Denton flashed a header wide, and Clarke was booked for a challenge on Green as the game moved into seven minutes of added time.
The additional minutes passed quickly and generally without incident allowing The Lambs to celebrate victory on the opening day.
