Non League Day disappointment
06 September 2014
The Lambs kicked off non league day towards the Meadow Street end and Hibbert forced an early corner but Chorley broke and Stephenson beat his marker to get in a dangerous cross from the right of the box.
Teasing crosses floated into the arms of box keepers in the opening ten minutes without really testing either Belshaw or Ashton.
Hibbert was forced off following a knock to his ankle on 16 but was quickly back in action as The Lambs pushed forwards. Belshaw was put under pressure on 20 when a corner caused problems for everyone, above head height, but his punch was cleared by the Grayson.
Play stopped again on 21 when Sleath needed treatment for a knock to his leg and he was unable to continue so Adams replaced him on 25.
Clarke was sent off for a two footed challenge in front of the main stand on 28 and Hibbert picked up a yellow shortly after for his reaction, leaving the home side a man short.
Grayson caught one time Lamb Teague on 33 to force the trainer onto the pitch for the umpteenth time in the game and still a breakthrough looked unlikely.
Then, on 40, the visitors took the lead when Josh Hine stole past Grayson in to head home at the far post (0-1, 40 mins) and it was 2-0 on 43 when Dean lifted the ball over the keeper from the left of the box but referee Tankard had to consult his assistant before awarding as the flag appeared to be raised.
Green was sent from the field of play on added time at the end of the half for lifting his arms to Cottrell and leaving the Chorley player with a reminder of his visit to The Lamb.
Chorley restarted proceedings having replaced Cottrell at HT and on 55 sub Roscoe picked up a yellow for a challenge on Jackson in the centre circle, with the home fans chanting ‘off’ in jest.
A great save from Belshaw against Dorney on 65 prevented a third goal for the visitors as Chorley forced a couple of corners on the right of the Meadows Street end.
Townsend struck the bar with a dipping right footed lob from 30 yards on 70, but it rebounded away and the scoreline remained at 0-2 to Chorley.
A penalty claim in favour of the Lambs was waved away by the referee Purdie’s cross from the right was met by the diving head of Hibbert on 80, but he didn’t get enough of a glance on it to divert it into the net.
The visitors extended their lead with four minutes remaining when Dorney completed a flowing move forward and slotted into the net from 12 yards out. (0-3, 86 mins)
Belshaw tipped a good strike from Roscoe round the post on 89 and Jacobs struck the post with a long range drive as the visitors tried to add another to their tally before the final whistle blew.
