Lambs pierced by Darts

FT: Tamworth 0    2 Dartford

26 August 2013

After Bank Holiday Saturday's solitary goal defeat away at the hands of Hereford United, Dale Belford made couple of changes for the visit of The Darts to The Lamb.
With captain Duane Courtney suspended he brought Louis Harris in for his first appearance of the season and Stuart Hendrie for his first full start, with Jake Jones taking a place on the bench.
Dartford arrived at The Lamb on the back of three consecutive defeats having only scored once in four outings,42 minutes into the opening day win over Alfreton so would be looking for a quick end to the 317 (and counting) minute barren spell.
The Lambs kicked off proceedings attacking the Castle End and Hendrie hit a right footed shot from the left side but it was going nowhere near Julian's goal and the keeper restarted play with a goalkick.
Thomas was able to direct a header goalward from 8 yards inside the second minute but it was Harris who made the first breakthrough when a long ball over the top down the left found Harris in space and he cut into the box, beat The Lambs defence and fired under Belford to end the Darts goal drought. (0-1, 4 mins)
Peniket was released through the middle on 11 and when Mitchel-King brought him down it set Baker with a freekick on the edge of the D which cleared the wall and brought a great save from Julian to tip it over the bar for a corner on the left which was headed away. Evans was felled in front of the clubhouse for another dead ball and a defender prevented Peniket from glancing it into the goal as it whipped across the box.
Capaldi took the resultant corner and Julian punched it long and Capaldi's long throw won another corner on the left again which Fry headed behind for another flag kick which Hendrie could only glance past the near post.
As the clock ticked onto 20, The Lambs continued to keep the visitors pegged back for the most part and Richards-Everton forced a fingertip stop from Julian on 22 with a bouncing shot. From the flag kick Hendrie got his head onto the ball and it clipped the top of the woodwork before going out of play.
However, Dartford did enjoy a spell of possession and when Capaldi fouled by the Cross Street entrance, Peniket as forced to dive-head the ball away from Birchall but the ball came back in and Clark finished from close range (0-2, 26 mins)
The action switched straight back to the opposite end again on the half hour but despite their best efforts Peniket's header and Hendrie's follow up failed to test Julian as his defence held strong in front of it.
Richards-Everton picked up a booking for a foul in the left back position of the field on 32 and will now face a suspension for his fifth yellow card in the first five games.
At the other end The Dartford defence somehow managed to clear Peniket and Kerry's dangerous efforts.
The resulting corner from Capaldi was long and low ball to the edge for Evans but his direct shot took a deflection a yard past the post for another corner which was cleared.
Byfield chased down a high ball forward on 38 and tangled with Mitchel-King who escaped with a talking to, while Capaldi floated the freekick into the box but it came to nothing.
Harris nearly got his head on a well placed left sided cross on 40 and Birchall's shot was watched past his far post but Belford, while Kerry struck low from 25 yards and it missed the left hand side of the target by inches.
Two minutes added time was shown at the end of the first half and after a short stoppage for the visit of the trainer for a knock to Julian Dartford won a corner on the right but it was headed away and the whistle blew.

HT: Tamworth 0    2 Dartford

Dartford made one change before starting the second half and after a spell of possession by the visitors Hendrie won a corner on the left but it was struck long and Julian was in no hurry to retrieve the ball or restart play with his goalkick.
A cross from Capaldi on 50 struck the Dartford defence and forced Julian to protect his goal and likewise Belford had to be quick when the visitors broke from the keepers ball out of defence.
The ball then dropped nicely for Baker on 52 but his snap shot skipped across the box and when Peniket burst down the right on 54 Hendrie lifted his shot on the half volley over the target.
Bradbrook headed towards goal on 58 but his push on Richards-Everton brought a whistle from the referee and a minute later Byfield was replaced by Jones.
Peniket's twisting and turning ended with a shot at goal on the hour but it took a deflection for a corner which came to nothing.
Dale Belford added some more fresh legs on 65 with Todd replacing Baker and Harris was replaced by Woolery with 19 to go, and this happened before a corner had been taken after had Peniket just failed to get to a deep ball into the box and the covering defender had conceded the flag kick.
With the minutes passing and the scoreline remaining the same home fans started to call for even more forward play but despite their best efforts the Dartford defence were holding strong and even when Jones volleyed from 18 yards out Julian was able to tip his goalbound effort onto the bar and out for a corner which came to nothing.
Evans struck for goal with a half volley from 35 yards on 84 but it was comfortable for Julian.
Sub Rogers was booked for booting a dead ball away and into the trees behind the clubhouse carpark
Todd found himself in a half decent position at the back of the box to try a shot on the volley on 86 after Peniket had been unable to get his head to the initial ball into the box from the right, but the former Mansfield man was unable to direct it on target.
Thomas was then booked for a foul on the half way line on Harris and Bradbrook was also booked for getting involved in the fracas afterwards as three minutes added time was shown as Harris was quickly substituted.
Evans then picked up a yellow card for a foul on Rogers and there was not enough time for any sort of comeback before the final whistle blew.
