A pair of super subs ensures the win

FT: Tamworth 2    1 Southport

19 March 2013

After Saturday's defeat to Kidderminster, Tamworth welcomed Southport to The Lamb and Dale Belford handed a re-debut to Liam Mitchell who signed on loan from Notts County until the end of the season amongst a number of changes to the side that player Harriers.
The Sandgrounders got the game underway and kept the ball in The Lambs half of the field for the opening five minutes or so with only sporadic bursts of Lambs pressure countering and on a number of occasions The Lambs combined in the final third, but were unable to finish good balls across the box.
As the 20th minute ticked around Southport  won their 7th corner of the game but the general all round lack of being able to get a half chance on target from both sides continued when Cunnington found himself with his back to goal and Chalmers cleared.
On the half hour, Press Association representative and ex-Villa star Gary Shaw made the first mark for a Lambs corner on his scoresheet and from the deadball keeper McMillan did well to clear the danger. Courtney then found himself in the referees note book for a challenge in front of The Shed.
A good save in the left of the box by Mitchell at the feet of Ledsham for the tenth Southport corner of the game and from the flag kick the ball whipped into the net at the far post but a foul on Mitchell, who lay tangled in the net, had already halted play.
Whalley was upended on 40 by Mitchell after the Southport player beat The Lambs defence and from the penalty the visitors took the lead. Mitchell guessed correctly but saw his block bounce invitingly for penalty taker Chalmers to head home from the rebound.
Oji connected with a good ball into the box as one minute added time was shown, but the a;f finished with the visitors in the lead.

HT: Tamworth 0    1 Southport

The Lambs got the second half underway and attacked the Castle End of the ground and the game continued as if half time had not occurred (although obviously kicking in the opposite way).
And on 53 The Lambs were handed a lifeline when keeper McMillan handballed outside the box with Cunnington bearing down on him down the right channel. Visitors then change the goalscorer for the sub keeper and Kerry struck the freekick well but the new keeper, Hibbert, pushed it away.
After Oji was booked on 63, Belford made his first change, bringing Lloyd on for Perry.
Lloyd made a good run down the left by the clubhouse and hit a low shot to the left of the goal and a Lambs corner on the right on 68 by Kelly was headed away,
With 15 to go Southport box Liam Watson made his first unenforced change of the night but there was little in the way of action at either end to warm the fans as the temperature started to drop.
Kelly lifted the ball into the box on 78 and Courtney glanced a header which bounced just wide of the far post and Wright was replaced by Byfield up front.
The Lambs equalised on 83 through Lloyd who struck from distance and left Hibbert flat footed as the ball flew into the bottom left corner.
Ledsham picked up a yellow card for a foul on Thorpe on the half way line on 83 and Kelly fired the freekick forwards, but there was no way through, and then on 87 Thorpe cleared the angled and goal bound shot from Whalley off the line for a corner.
Six minutes added was shown at the end of the game and from Wylde's long through ball on 94 Byfield judged the bounce perfectly and lobbed Hibbert from 25 yards to make it 2-1 to The Lambs.
