Lambs win first ever local derby
08 August 2012
A good crowd at Hermitage Hill turned out to see the hosts entertain a 'reserve' Lambs side, although the majority of the team on the field are actually on first team forms of some description.
Polesworth - under the managership of Steve Reynolds, kicking up the slope in the first half, had an early chance to open the scoring when Tedds got the better of Courtney but fired past the far post when well positioned.
On 10 minutes though Tamworth put the ball in the net when Law's header from a corner was knocked over the line by Wallen (1-0)
Wilcock almost made it two shortly after but saw his run and shot go wide of the just wide of the left hand upright.
Wallen then thought he'd netted his second of the evening with a cheeky lob over the advancing keeper, but the bounce took the ball agonisingly over the bar by just a couple of feet.
From Smith's left wing cross just past the half hour Law netted a rare goal with a fine volley from 20 yards which crept inside the left hand post as keeper Parks dived despairingly but could only watch it go past him. (2-0)
And towards the end of the half a delightful lofted cross into the box from Meer was met by an equally good header to give Wallen his brace (3-0)
After the break, and with The Lambs now kicking up the slope, another Meer - Law combination almost brought a fourth goal, but the home keeper pulled off a fine stop to deny the Scotsman his second.
Another chance came for the same player as play continued but again he was denied by some strong defending while at the other end, Wren was forced to dive at the feet of Fallon as he looked to nip home a chance from 6 yadrs out.
The Polesworth keeper let a right wing cross slip through his grasp just past the hour, but Courtney was unable to turn his snap shot between the posts and found only the side netting.
And the hard working home side were rewarded with a goal with 15 to go when Scott Reynolds corner was powerfully headed into the net by Lake (3-1).
