Rampant Lambs hit Mikes for four
20 July 2012
The Lambs Friday night run out at Boldmere was a very one sided affair in the first half as the home side barely had the ball over the half way line for almost all of the opening 45 minutes.
Till struck a long range shot over the bar to signal his sides intentions early on and the Kelly and Kery combined to force an early save from Butler in the home goal.
Barrow made a good run into the box from the left but curled a low right footed shot at the keeper and the a strong run from Till and cross from the right of the box was cleared by the home defence who were working overtime to repel the constant danger.
Excellent play from 'Jan' saw him shoot wide of the left hand post and a corner from a Wright lead attack was cleared.
Tait got in on the action with a ball into the area which fell behind rather than in front of th in rushing Wright before Till slipped through but found the keeper in the way of an opening goal.
Barrow struck another effort which was put behind for a corner and from Hendrie's flag kick Oji headed over the bar as the onslaught continued.
Tait forced the keeper to push a fierce drive away for a corner as the pressure threatened a goal and one came with 10 minutes of the half remaning.
Kelly fed Wright with a neat ball to feet in the box and he made no mistake from 8 yards with just the keeper to beat (1-0).
Less than five minutes later Marshall headed home a well placed dinked cross to the far post (2-0) and more silkly skills from 'Jan' almost brought a third before the break but Kelly and Kerry's set up and shot went over the bar.
Although Breeden had barely had a touch of the ball in the first half, Tamworth changed keepers at half time, as Wren took his place but it was Butler who found himself in the thick of it once again, picking the ball out of the net with less than 5 minutes gone as 'Jan' robbed a miss-hit clearance to take on the defender and slot the ball home from 6 yards out. (3-0)
A fourth goal was now the target but Kerry missed a good chance by firing wide of the mark.
He made amends almost immediately though, latching onto a fine ball into the box and rifling home. (4-0)
Kelly's run and lofted pass to 'Jan' almost brought a fifth but the Spaniard was a denied lobbed goal by the advancing keeper. He was replaced by Patterson shortly afterwards, in his first run out of the pre-season.
At the other end, Boldmere did get a sight of goal but Wren denied Leon Weller with a brave stonrg save and Oji was forced to put the ball behind from a dangerous ball in by the same player shortly afterwards.
Till's right wing cross was headed at Butler by Cunnington (on for Wright) and then a multi pass move involving Hendrie, Kerry, Cunnington and Patterson saw the latter just unable to lift his header over Butler.
Patterson almost made it five after robbing the ball from the home side in the right channel but rolled his shot past the far post from a tight angle and then repeated the move almost exactly from the other side, rolling the ball past the opposite post.
Cunnington struck at Butler and Kelly hit a freekick from the left on target but Butler tipped it over as the minutes ticked away.
A corner from Kelly then whizzed a yard accross the face of goal unhindered and superb skills from Gudger to beat his covering defender almost found Cunnington advancing in the box.
The Lambs did get the ball in the net again before the final whistle, but Marshall's close range header from Flanagan's freekick was ruled out for offside.
