Early signs are promising as squad win away
14 July 2012
Lambs boss Marcus Law fielded as near a full strength side as his squad would allow at Marston Road as Tamworth visited Evostik side Stafford Rangers in the second pre-season encounter.
Early signs were good from The Lambs, in their new Draytom Manor sponsored away kit, with Hendrie showing excellent touches and awareness to try and release his attacking team mates and the rest of the squad, in their first public match, looked to have a good understanding between them already.
Hendrie sent a good ball through the Rangers defence in the opening exchanges but Wright was unable to reach the pass and Marna tried a similar move for Cunnington shortly after.
Kerry was also showing his ability and forced a powerful stop from the home keeper before Kelly notched the opening goal on 10 minutes when Hendrie's through ball fell to him on the edge of the box and he made no mistake from 18 yards with just the keeper to beat (1-0).
Smith replaced Cunnington on 13 and the striker was forced to apply ice to his injury and watch as Marha's cross to Wright saw the latter's header force an excellent save from the keeper.
Wright headed goalward from a Tait cross later in the half and Kelly and Kerry combined to send the ball to the far post for Marna but his shot went wide of the left hand upright as the half ended with Tamworth definitely on top.
A triple change by Rangers at the break paid dividends immediately when Quinn found himself with time in the left of the area to fire past Breeden who could do little to stop the equaliser on 46 (1-1).
Quinn then forced a superb stop from Breeden with a powerful strike while at the other end Kerry could only place his one-on-one shot straight at the keeper.
Substitutions from both sides disrupted the flow of the game but Breeden pulled another fine stop to deny a Johnson header before making way for Wren between the posts.
As both sides settled into the rearrangements on the field Tamworth once again looked to be in control and with 10 minutes to go the visibly hungry Lambs substitute 'Jan' showed great skill to create an opening for himself in the box and fire what proved to be the winner with a fine angled drive from the right into the far corner of the goal.
