Lambs win in first run out
13 July 2012
Marcus Law ran the rule over a large number of trialists against Midland Football Alliance side Heather and The Lambs side emerged victorious in a game that was played in, bizarrely, glorious sunshine for the most part.
As is the norm with early pre-season games, the names of a number of players caused much head scratching amongst the the crowd (and the announcer!).
Tamworth, in the new Solus / Ankerside / Computer Friendly sponsored red kit, fell behind after nine minutes when a cross from the right went unchallenged and Ryan Nash headed home from close range to give his side the lead.
There was a good deal of positive play from The Lambs from then on but it took a penalty in the 43rd minute for them to draw the scores level.
'Player 8' made a good run into the box and unselfishly pulled the ball back for 'player 7' who was upended as he went to shoot from 12 yards but managed to dust himself down and send Peter Maguire the wrong way from the spot (pictured).
After the break the Lambs fielded two keepers, in the new purple kit, and Heather had a couple of good chances but failed to take them.
Meanwhile, the Heather keeper went on to make a number of fine stops but was eventually beaten with less than a quarter of an hour to go when Matt Watley curled a low shot from the left of the box into the far right corner to give Tamworth victory.
