Cod Army wrap up all the points

FT: Tamworth 0    3 Fleetwood Town

03 March 2012

Marcus Law's squad welcomed Micky Mellon's title chasing Town side to The Lamb with the visitors out to at least preserve their 5 point gap at the top of the table.
The two sides had enjoyed a 2-2 draw exactly four Saturday's previously where Tamworth held a surprising upper hand for a time before settling for a share of the spoils and an arduous snow bound journey home.
And so, this time in the cold damp drizzle, Law made a couple of changes to the side that suffered a 2-1 reversal at the hands of Mansfield, with Jonathan Hedge fresh from his appearance at Fleetwood's Highbury Stadium as the England C ‘keeper in midweek.
With Scott Barrow ruled out with a hamstring pull Sam Habergham returned to the side and Connor Taylor made his debut after signing in midweek on loan from Aston Villa.

With sunshine now streaming from a blue sky, The Lambs got the game underway, kicking towards the Castle End and on 3 Tait escaped when his pass back to Hedge went short and Fowler somehow struck the outside of the left hand upright from 12 yards with the keeper easily beaten.
5: Cavanagh tried his luck from 20 yards right footed but it was straight at Hedge and failed to trouble him.
6: The Lambs immediately took play to the other end and Pond was forced to head behind for a corner which was put behind again and McDonald tried again this time long for Marna, but again it was knocked behind for a flag kick.
7: McDonald took the corner short and Tait almost curled his shot under the corner of bar and post, but Davies was not beaten and watched it drop over the frame of his goal.
12: McGuire was penalised for an elbow on Tait outside the Lambs area and Hedge put the ball deep into the Fleetwood half causing a few problems.
15: Fleetwood won a corner on the right off the sliding tackle of Habergham and Goodall could only find Hedge's hands.
17: Marna sent a ball through for Patterson to chase on to but under pressure from the covering defender he tumbled and the calls for a penalty were waved away by the referee.
21: A run through the Lambs defence down the right wing saw Deeley try his luck with an angled drive which went wide of the near post.
24: A penalty was awarded against Isaac who was adjudged to have tripped Vardy as he skipped into the box and passed Habergham.
25: After a lengthy pause Mangan stepped up and fired low to the right, with Hedge guessing the wrong way. (0-1, 25 mins)
29: Marna forced a corner on the left and Davies missed his punch but Fleetwood raced out and kept possession over the half way line until a poor long pass gave Hedge a goal kick.
35: Patterson was felled by the clubhouse corner and McDonald sent the ball into the area but as Marna rose to head for goal a push was spotted and play was stopped by the whistle.
38: Marna made a great run down the left and cut in before lifting the ball into the six yard box. Davies was unable to get anything on it but Pond was there with a defensive header to deny Tait as he raced in at the far post.
43: Seddon showed dissent when a throw was not given his way and was duly booked.
45: A minimum of one minute added time was shown at the end of the first half which ended without further incident.

HT: Tamworth 0    1 Fleetwood Town

Fleetwood got the second half underway and inside the first minute Habergham's clip on Vardy almost saw the Town player go down, but the striker continued his run when other's may have not.
48: After riding a similar ankle knock, McKoy hit a hopeful effort at Davies from 30 yards, but it didnt really trouble the visiting keeper who made a regulation stop.
52: Mangan finished a good move which started down the right through Fowler and then moved into the middle with Vardy before the former struck on the angle from the left of the box and Hedge smothered the chance.
54: Mangan struck for goal once again from a Vardy centre but didn't get enough purchase on the ball and Hedge caught it on the bounce.
55: A foul by Green on Vardy in the right channel gave Fowler and Goodall the chance to discuss options but the flag prevented Mangan's resulting air shot from looking like a genuine mistake.
61: Mangan chipped to the far post and Tait headed behind for a corner as Fleetwood pushed on once again but Hedge was not being tested by the visitors efforts and Cavanagh then headed over from another flag kick.
63: Law made his first change as Nix came on for Isaac.
64: Till replaced Seddon for the visitors.
66: Green put in a fine challenge on Vardy to prevent the striker from hitting a shot at Hedge from the left of the box and as Tamworth pushed forward a foul on the half way line allowed Tait to punt the ball up field but it was too strong and Marna was unable to chase it down.
68: McDonald picked up a booking for a foul on Fowler, but the fans in the seats held a diametrically opposite opinion about the challenge.
69: Vardy blazed the ball over the bar form the edge of the box while his teammate Mangan lay prostrate on the floor.
71: Nix then picked up a booking for a late low challenge in the centre circle on McGuire.
74: Following Fowler's run into the box, a corner was conceded and Mangan received his kick back, allowing Fleetwood to keep the pressure on, but it was quelled and the Lambs made a second change.
78: St. Aimie almost set up an equaliser as his ball over the top found Tait on the right of the box and his chip fell at the feet of Taylor at the far post, but Davies quick enough to smother the ball before he could finish the chance.
81: Tait struck for goal with a right footed shot from distance and it took a deflection off Taylor who knew little about it but forced Davies into a stop at his left hand post.
82: There was now a renewed sense of urgency about Tamworth and a niggly foul allowed the Lambs to try and camp in the final third.
84: However, Fleetwood always posed a threat and when Vardy and Mangan combined, the latter lifted his shot over the bar from a good position in the box.
86: Man of the match Courtney hobbled off to be replaced by Francis who took a position up front while at the other end Vardy slipped the ball through to Mangan who missed the target with a driven low shot from 25 yards.
88: Vardy did manage to do what Mangan had not been able to though, nipping the ball off the feet of Green as he scampered back towards goal and prodded it from beneath him to double the lead. (0-2, 88 mins)
90: Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game which saw Deeley booked before a Lambs corner.
With Tait prostrate on the floor and the majority of the players waiting for the referee to stop play, Hedge prevented Vardy from finishing a one on one, but Mangan was able to fire home and make it 3-0 with a simple tap in.
