Penalty ultimately puts the tie out of Lambs reach

FT: Everton 2    0 Tamworth

07 January 2012

Everton kick off and after about sixty seconds Fellaini fouls Patteson setting up Barrow to fire a long range free kick to the right of Howard's goal.

2 At the other end Gueye's shot is blocked by Tait.

4 Collister is then forced out to deny run of Anichebe

5 A left hand side corner is awarded to Everton and the ball to far post is not dealt with effectively allowing Heitinga to rise highest to head home - 1-0 to Everton. Official timing 4 mins 57 seconds. (0-1, 5 mins)

9 more danger from Everton as Habergham blocks the ball into the side netting from a drive by Anichebe. Courtney clears but the home side keep up the pressure and Anichebe forces Collister to save with his feet from close range..

11 Bilyaletdinov tried his luck with a left footed half volley but only proceeds in hitting row Z much to the delight of the Lambs fans.

12 Anichebe again causes problems this time down the left.

13 McFadden's header could have been better from a left wing cross by Anichebe.

14 A foul on Christie 35 yards out in a central position sets up Barrow with a dead ball but his hard hit strike comes back off the wall.

15 Gueye is prevented from hitting a low shot from 20 yards by a great block from debut new-signing McKoy.

17 Heitinga's left footed shot balloons up off the wall and out for a right sided corner.

There are fifteen photographers behind Collister's goal and just four behind Howard's....

19 Neville fells Thomas on the halfway line in front of the travelling faithful. Tait hits it long to Christie but his header is taken at height by Howard - his first real touch.

20 A similar foul is conceded by Everton but much closer to the box down the right side. Barrow strikes it left footed and it comes back out to him. He goes for glory but the ball screws high and wide.

23 The Lambs a starting to find a rhythm and a niggly foul by Bilyaletdinov denies Thomas down the right wing. Barrow once again puts the ball into the danger area, but Howard collects.

24 Everton make a break forward and the move ends with McFadden's low shot from the left ofthe box which rolls just past the right hand upright and out.

28 Patterson wows the fans with a trick in front of the Bullen's Road Stand but on the flip side and with the goal and worries now out of their system, Everton don't appear to be having to try too hard to keep possession.

30 But they lose it in midfield and Patterson makes a surging run down the right and cuts through two defenders before shooting for goal, the Lambs fans get to their feet but although Howard is beaten it's a whisker away and goes just wide of the far post.

31 Patterson hits a right footed shot from a similar position but this one is straight at Howard.

32 Christie clashes with Heitinga leaving the Everton defender needing the magic sponge.
All that can be heard is the Tamworth fans songs.

37 The floodlights come on and Anichebe fails to get the better of Kanyuka, fouling him in the process as both chase the ball into the box.

38 At the other end there's some pressure from The Lambs and Neville heads the ball back over Howard and onto the roof of the net for a first Lambs corner but Barrow's dead ball is headed long by the home defence and Fellaini prevents Kanyuka from advancing for the cross.

41 Another Lambs corner comes in the best spell of the game for Tamworth. This time it's on the right and Barrow puts the ball into the danger area but the side are forced to go all the way back to Collister and Everton regain possession from his long clearance.

43 Donovan inadvertently tramples over Thomas in the centre circle and Tait finds Patterson but the Lambs have to settle for a corner on the right and when the ball comes back out to Habergham, he lifts it into the area but Christie is offside with his header.

45 Another corner comes this time on the left as one minute added time is shown, but nothing can be made of the dead ball and the whistle blows on a solid first half.

HT: Everton 1    0 Tamworth

Tamworth kick off the second half and go in search of an early strike back, but Howard was always going to be quickest as Christie chases down the ball.

49 Courtney gets the better of Neville down the right but play quickly switches to the other end and Gueye finds Bilyaletdinov meaning Kanyuka is forced to concede a corner on the left which is subsequently well defended.

53 Barrow makes headway into the Everton box down the left but his cross is denied by the head of Heitinga.

55 Kanyuka catches Fellaini on the edge of the area but play continues and Colesman forces Collister to push the ball over his bar with a floated shot from 25 yards out on the right.
Both Fellaini and Coleman need treatment before play can resume and Everton are forced to make a change. Tait heads the corner away and Tamworth break but Barrow's path is blocked en route to goal however nothing is given by the referee.

62 St. Aimie replaces Christie up front and almost immediately he has a chance but fires just high and wide of the target from the right of the box.

64 From Tait's freekick inside his own half, Howard punches clear and Donovan and McFadden combine but the final ball is lacking and Tait mops up, but Everton keep coming.

65 Just before Drenthe comes into the fray, Donovan diverts a low ball into the box just past the opposite post and should perhaps half done better.

66 Donovan cuts back on the left of the area and sends a good ball to the far post, but should have looked first as there is absolutely no one there to receive it.

67 Thomas is replaced by Shariff.

68 Francis is penalised for a tackle on Drenthe, setting up a 35 yard freekick with a direct line to the goal.
Heitinga tries to take it short quickly but the referee is not ready so he tries his luck from distance but fails to trouble Collister.

71 Neville finds space to cross from the right and Gueye heads for goal but glances it far past the target from 18 yards out.

77 Collister pulls off a fine save to deny Bilyaletdinov from 25 yards and gathers the rebound.

78 After all the hard work of the last 73 mniutes Habergham is adjudged to have pulled down Drenthe in the area for a soft penalty. In the build up to the penalty Collister is booked for squirting the ball with water before being sent the wrong way by Baines. (0-2, 79 mins). Penalties will and have been given for a lot less and a lot more.

80 From the restart Patterson suddenly finds himself in space to attack but Fellaini drives him wide and the chance is gone. Meanwhile, Law and Moyes have a chat about proceedings across the technical areas.

83 McDonald sends in a low freekick and it's put behind for a right sided corner which Barrow puts in to the far post and it's headed agonisingly the wrong side of the post.

85 Donovan lets one fly from 25 yards and with Collister in full flight the ball strikes the top right corner of bar and post.

88 With home fans starting to leave Donovan spins on the ball 12 yards out and fires an effort high over Collister's bar. Tamworth respond with a move down towards Howard and Patterson is brought down setting up McDonald with a left footed freekick which he curls a few feet over the target from 20 yards out.

90 Three minutes added time is shown as the clock ticks down on The Lambs tenure in the FA Cup and St Aimie feels aggrieved when a push in the back is not spotted by the referee. To get it out of his system he goes on a run down the right and beats Baines but is unable to get any further before the final whistle blows.

At the final whistle both sides take time to applaud all the fans in the ground, who recipricate and sing back at them.

Attendance of 27,564 is the biggest for a Tamworth game in the club's history, beating the 1989 FA Vase final at Wembley by a whisker.
