Lambs come back but fall to late penalty

FT: 2    1 Tamworth

02 April 2011

For the trip to promotion chasing Fleetwood Town, Boss Des Lyttle made one change to the side that drew with Wrexham on Tuesday night welcoming Christian Smith back into the starting eleven, meaning Ben Wilkinson took a spot on the bench as Kyle Perry was ruled out due to injury.

Tamworth were put onto the back foot at The Highbury Stadium and could have fallen to an early goal when Brown shot at Mitchell and Donnelly fired wide when well positioned in a one on one.
The first real move for The Lambs came just before the 20 minute mark when Lake-Gaskin headed a Wylde cross on to the roof of the net while at the other end, Barry crossed for Pond who flicked on for Donnelly who could only put this header wide.
The Cod Army were definitely on top, and Parker hit the side netting just past the half hour mark when Clancy's header went across goal.
Smith hit a shot at Hurst shortly afterwards but The Lambs fell behind on 34 when McGuire hit a low shot into the far corner beyond Mitchell's reach.
Injury to Farrell forced a Tamworth change on 35 bringing Sheridan into the play and the attacking midfielder was booked a couple of minutes later for a foul on Beeley.
A Tamworth corner just before the break could have seen the scores level at half time, but Marshall put his header wide of the mark with the goal at his mercy.

HT: 1    0 Tamworth

Fleetwood went in search of a second goal after the restart and Mcguire forced Mitchell into an early save before Daniel Bradley was booked or a foul on Gregan.
Tait then hit the outside of the home post with a shot from the edge of the area after Barry gave the ball away.
And with The Lambs growing in confidence Thomas scored a goal which saw the referee play on after Sheridan had been flagged offside and Thomas advanced down the left before firing low into the net from a tight angle (1-1, 66 mins)
McNutly saw his header cleared off the line from Barry's cross and Pond headed onto the roof of the net from Parkers cross a few minutes later.
Marshall then neaded wide when well placed and Daniel Bradley saw a shot blocked by McNulty with the game capable of going either way.
Brown headed Sheridan's effort off the line while McNulty saw his header deflected over the bar and nestle on the roof of the goal.
But the home side took the win via an 87th minute penalty after Vieira had been brought down by Marshall in the area, and the same player slotted home from the spot with Mitchell diving the right way but unable to prevent the goal.
The Lambs pushed on as the final whistle came into sight but it was not to be and the 50 or so travelling Lambs were unable to celebrate what would have been a good third point in a row.
