Perry double not enough to deny Hayes win

FT: Tamworth 2    3 Hayes & Yeading

12 March 2011

Des Lyttle's Lambs returned to home pastures to face bottom four side Hayes and Yeading, who featured Bradley Pritchard amongst their ranks.
There were two new faces in the Tamworth squad with goalkeeper Liam Mitchell ruled out through injury Daniel Ward came in on a one match loan from Wrexham while Stuart Hendrie - son of former Lambs manager Paul and brother of ex-Villa star Lee - on loan from Morecambe replacing Ben Wilkinson  who took a place on the bench.

Hayes for the match underway with Tamworth attacking the Castle End in the first half and immediately it was obvious that the home side were adopting a 4-4-2 formation.
An early ball in from Thomas on the left saw Smith and Perry clash but the former did force a save from Preddie before Bradley followed up with a dink into the side netting.
Hayes responded with a corner on the right which Tait headed away for a throw on the other side and Tait did the honours again allowing Tamworth to break and Thomas won a corner on the left but play was stopped for a high boot by Wylde in the box.
A long ball from Ward on 5 allowed Perry to flick on into the path of Hendrie who sprinted into the box and took a touch before trying to lob the advancing keeper but his shot went over the bar.
Pritchard made space for himself on the edge of the area on 6 and fired a low but easy to save shot at Ward and the Hayes player brought down Smith on the half way line for a Lambs freekick on 9.
Wylde got his head onto a Brown cross on 13 and from the long throw the ball rebounded off Pritchard, in a position close to the goal,  and into the net to open the scoring (0-1, 14 mins). To his credit, the former did not celebrate his strike.
Hand upended Smith on the right wing to give Thomas the freekick on 17 but the ball was cleared and as Hayes advanced Pritchard beat his marker and squared for Wright on the right of the box, but Ward rushed out to make a good stop to deny a quick second.
At the other end Hendrie fed Thomas who found Preddy in good form and the ball almost ended up in the net via a rebound off captain Holmes but went out for a corner which was wasted.
Wright then had to be replaced, struggling to continue for the visitors
Hand then brought Smith to the floor from behind but only received a stiff talking to and Barrow restarted play, finding Perry for a header which Preddy collected at height.
Tamworth were being made to battle for every ball and a few crunching tackles went in, then on 28 Perry spun on the ball 25 yards out and forced Preddy into a low save to his right.
Cadmore went right over the top of Sheridan on the left channel and Thomas struck the resulting dead ball but Wylde was beaten to the header and Hayes cleared their lines.
Yiadom struck the right hand upright with a cross come shot from the right of the box on 32 and the ball went out with Ward well positioned but unaware.
Then on 33 a penalty was awarded for handball against Cadmore allowing Perry to take a free shot from the spot and he put it home at the second attempt - his 14th of the season - after an good initial stop by Preddy. (1-1, 33 mins)
Bradley finished a fine move downfield with a shot which took a slight deflection to take it back to Preddy.
Webb put a late and high challenge in on Barrow on 37 earning himself a booking, then Hayes pushed on and Yiadom hit a shot over the bar after a string of passes set him up in the right of the area.
Hendrie and Holmes clashed on the right wing causing the Hayes player to need treatment.
Pritchard was unlucky with a right footed shot at full stretch from 18 yards which went over the corner of bar and post on 43 and a minimum of two minutes added time was shown.
The Lambs won a corner in stoppage time but the offside flag stopped play before the whistle blew.

HT: Tamworth 1    1 Hayes & Yeading

Tamworth got the second period underway but a penalty was awarded against Smith for handball from a Hayes freekick. Brown stepped up to face Ward from 12 yards and the keeper was unable to get close to his low strike into the bottom right corner. (1-2, 51 mins)
There were shouts for another handball, this time against the visitors on 55 when Hendrie's cross ballooned up in the air and back down with Perry and Cadmore both going for the same ball.
Tamworth were finding a bit of room moving up field but as the ball came towards the half way line Barrow was brought down by Yiadom and this allowed Lyttle to make his first change of the game.
Webb and Yiadom combined to allow the latter a half chance shot at Ward on 63 and on 66 Lake-gaskin fired in a cross from the right which Preddy was more than equal to at his near post.
Bradley was booked on 67 when Preddy came out to collect the ball and acrobatically rolled to the ground with a defender also in the mix.
Yiadom sliced a shot on the turn at goal on 71 as Jason Bradley replaced Thomas.
Hayes extended their lead on 76 when Eliot Buchanan finished well from the left of the box and big questions were being asked on the terraces about the Lambs defence in the build up. (1-3, 76 mins)
Pritchard looked for a second goal of the afternoon on 79 with a left footed drive from 18 yards which rose over the target.
A foul on Hendrie 25 yards from goal gave Smith the dead ball on 83 but he could only strike the wall with his shot and on 85 Hendrie made a run into the area but Perry couldn't get his shot away and the chance went as quickly as it was created.
With time running down, Lake-Gaskin's right wing cross went behind the goal rather than to it's intended target of Perry at the far post and from a long throw Wylde got his head to the ball but deflected it wide of the mark from in front of the near post on the right.
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game with Tamworth on the offensive with Daniel Bradley's half volley striking a covering defender and Courtney flicking a header just wide of the mark from a freekick.
A goal did eventually come in the 94th minute when Perry nodded home from close range following a goalmouth scramble after an initial save from Preddy (2-3, 94 mins) but it was too little too late and H&Y celebrated their double over the Lambs.
