Three goals and three points from Yorkshire debut

FT: Farsley Celtic 1    3 Tamworth

15 November 2008Tamworth made their debut appearance at Throstle’s Nest, Farsley on the back of two league draws while the home fans were still coming to terms with losing their leading goalscorer 24 hours earlier.
The Villagers came out of the blocks the quickest and forced Tamworth to defend strongly although Bradley Pritchard had the first effort on goal with just three minutes gone, seeing his shot deflected out for a corner.
Ex-league player Andy Campbell then made a strong run on 7 for Celtic feeding Lee Tuck who saw his shot take a deflection to go wide, but the corner came to nothing.
SheldonTamworth broke and the referee pulled play back, awarding a freekick to Tamworth after deeming there was no advantage to be gained by playing on and Gareth Sheldon duly fired home the dead ball to give Tamworth the lead on 11 (1-0)
There then came a flurry chances and corners - two for Tamworth where Foster shot but missed the target and the Smith missed his header and the third from Campbell’s run saw Tamworth go on the counter attack only for Rodman to find his path to goal blocked and had to put in a cross under pressure which was mopped up by the home defence.
On 21 Shaw and Tuck both received a booking after both had ended up in a heap on the floor and James Knowles also saw his name go in the book for a foul on Rodman on 25.
Rodman and Wright put shots on goal but neither caused home custodian Curtis Aspden too much trouble and on 37 Wright was just a short distance away from receiving the ball back after good interplay down the field.
Burgess, in for the injured Lyttle made a good run on 41 but also found his way blocked before another good move set up Sheldon to fire home right footed from the edge of the box and into the far corner to make it 2-0 to The Lambs (2-0, 43 mins)
In added time at the end of the first half Rodman pushed a short corner from Shaw into the path of Pritchard who looked to have extended the lead even more, but he found Dominic Krief in the way on the line.

HT: Farsley Celtic 0    2 Tamworth

RodmanA disastrous clearance by Aspden 8 minutes after the restart allowed Rodman to skip around the grounded keeper and make it 3-0 after Aspden had tried to hoof the ball out of the danger area, but only managed to slice it into the air before falling over.
Campbell saw his name added to the referee’s notebook on 54 and Foster quickly followed on 56 after conceding a freekick which the home side wasted in a good position.
Jake Speight managed the home side’s best shot at goal on 61 and crashed his effort against the corner of post and bar before Sheldon and Pritchard combined at the other end only for the latter to see his shot deflected out for a corner on 63.
From the corner the ball came too quickly for Sheldon to react as it fell at his feet and the home side broke but play was halted when Langdon used his arm to block a forward pass and duly found himself also in the book.
With 15 to go Tamworth were still looking to add to their tally and substitute Birley’s low effort was gathered by Aspden as the travelling fans chanted “We want four”.
Krief then found himself another addition to the ever increasing list of bookings after a pointless follow through on Pritchard and as if in response Rodman let fly only to be denied by Aspden and shortly after Pritchard found himself similarly frustrated by the home keeper.
Foster used some quick thinking to hook a dangerous ball from Tuck away from the penalty area with 5 to go and Birley again found Aspden in the way of a Lambs fourth goal.
But the home side were not going to let Tamworth have the last word and thought they had pulled one back on 88 when substitute Matthew James put the ball in the net despite Bevan’s initial best efforts only to find himself denied by the offside flag.
Sheldon then struck the top of the bar with a free kick but it was Tom Penford who did have the final say, netting with a low strike from 20 yards to wipe away what could have been a clean sheet, before being substituted in 6 minutes injury time for a hamstring pull.
