Lambs can't get through Badgers

FT: Eastwood Town 0    0 Tamworth

21 July 2008

Tamworth made their first trip to Coronation Park, Eastwood since Dave Seedhouse was in charge in 1984 but were frustrated by the home side, who could well have been playing Blue Square North football this coming season if they had made it through the playoffs instead of Gateshead.

Lambs boss Gary Mills changed just one position in the starting eleven from Saturday's win over Halifax with Des Lyttle coming in for Callum Burgess, and switched Nick Wright to centre and Gareth Sheldon to the right.

With the offside flag hampering both sides and the referee's whistle pulling play back the game lacked any real flow and chances were definitely at a premium.
In fact despite a few forays into the final thrid of the field, The Lambs crisp passing game was notable in it's absence as the home side disrupted play and then did their best to push forward.
After a goalless first half Tamworth started the second half kicking up hill and were brighter than the home side with the passing game starting to show.
But the introduction for Eastwood of a well known face in Tris Whitman almost produced the opening goal when his through ball found the tricky Lindon Meikle who could not control his shot.
There was no mass of substitutions with just Craig McAughtrie and Jake Sheridan taking to the field and it was the latter who almost won the tie for Tamworth in the final 10 minutes with some quick play right of centre.
First off he left his marker for dead on the half way line and made for goal before firing just wide of the mark from 20 yards and then he hit the bar with the keeper beaten from 15 yards but Sheldon was unable to finish the chance from the powerful rebound.

Puddy, Lyttle, Langdon, Smith (McAughtrie 59), Wylde, Foster, Wright (Sheridan 64), Hildreth, Sheldon, Rodman, Pritchard

Unused: Law, Woolaston, Jones, Burgess, Lea, hendrie, Ransome
