Lambs win overseas and make plenty of new friends

FT: Institute FC 0    1 Tamworth

15 July 2008

Although a little bit fiesty on the pitch at times, this game epitomised the name 'friendly' as both sets of fans and officials greeted eachother like long lost relatives and there was hopeful talk on the terraces of a return fixture next year before the game had even finished.

Nick Wright netted the only goal of the game in Derry, Northern Ireland, with five first half minutes remaining, from a freekick which fell kindly for him at the far post. Wright had previously struck the post with a good shot earlier in the half and Lee Hildreth had fired wide from the edge of the area while Chris Smith saw a header well saved.
Institute's chances were very limited but did give Tamwortha shock when John O'Loughlin's freekick was headed firmly but off target by David Kee early on.
The wind and intermittents bursts of heavy rain tried their best to hamper proceedings and had all but disappeared in the second period when Wright made a number of mazy runs but was unable to finish them with a goal and under intermittent heavy showers Tamworth dominated proceedings although the home side almost snatched one back in the dying minutes only to shoot wildly off target when well positioned.
It was part of a four day team building trip for the squad, and the small band of travelling supporters who had made the trip went back to their hotels (eventually) after making many new friends in the process.

Team: Ransome, Burgess (Woolaston 57), Langdon (Law 57), Smith, Lyttle, Foster, Wright, Hildreth, Sheldon (Jones 60), Rodman (Lea 67), Pritchard (Sheridan 52).

No programme was issued for this game, but a teamsheet was available
