Lambs find themselves in Yellow Peril

FT: Hucknall 3    1 Tamworth

08 December 2007

Jackson helps out in defenceTamworth made their first trip of the week up the M1 to face Hucknall Town in a league fixture.
Gary Mills made just one enforced change from last Saturday’s victory over Leigh RMI – with Rikki Bains taking the place of David Oldfield who left to become Brackley Town’s manager in midweek.

In the pouring rain and on a pitch that rapidly became slippy and muddy the home side took the lead on seven minutes.
From a throw on the right the ball came into the area and Danny Bacon opened the scoring with a shot over his left shoulder into the far corner. (0-1)
And four minutes later it was 2-0 to Hucknall. Dave Bampton received a yellow card for a two footed tackle in the centre of the park and from it The Lambs failed to clear the freekick which was headed on for Ben Saunders to knock home after ghosting into the far post. (0-2)
Bobby Wilson fired a low shot from distance at Philip Palethorpe on 18 which he was forced to collect at the second attempt due to the wet conditions.
Jonathon Richter had the Lambs first real chance of the game on 28 with a low shot on target that failed to trouble Greg Smith, but a minute later it was 3-0 to the home side.
Another freekick, this time on the right wing was not cleared and Bacon stole in between the Lambs defence to prod home.
Mills was forced to make a substitution on the half hour mark with Adie Smith being replaced by Marcus Ebdon in midfield.
Despite little need to pressurise Tamworth, Hucknall still looked in control and although the Lambs did pick up towards the end of the first 45 they were left with a mountain to climb in the second half.

HT: 0-3

With the game essentially won by their hosts, Tamworth enjoyed more time and space on the ball, but found it hard to break down a stubborn Hucknall defence while Hucknall still pushed forward but lacked a cutting edge to make it count.
All hgands on deck at the backThe inclusion of Luke Edwards gave Tamworth more options and pace down the right wing.
In the 77th minute Hucknall’s Ian Robinson struck the crossbar with a rasping shot from the edge of the area and repeated the feat on 84 with a more delicate effort with Palethorpe at full stretch.
A minute before the second hit of the woodwork, Micheal Briscoe scored after a Lambs freekick was only batted away by Smith in the home goal but it was little more than consolation.
Mills and the fans will be looking for an immediate response on Tuesday’s trip to Alfreton and the return visit to Hucknall in the Trophy next weekend.
