Lambs come back twice to take the points

FT: Tamworth 4    2 St Ives Town

26 September 2020

The Lambs second league outing came after the FA Cup heroics in midweek and welcomed St Ives to The CR MOT Community Stadium.

The Lambs made a few changes from Tuesday with Aaron Forde suspended, Jordan Gough, Jordan Graham, and Tom Tonks came into the starting eleven.

Tamworth started the game attacking Meadow Street end and two long throws from Tonks caused problems in the visitors box early on.
St Ives quickly found their feet in the final third forced a couple of corners before the ten minute mark but Richards was off target with his shooting when well placed on more than one occasion.
Tonks tried his luck from distance on 11 but his rising shot cleared the bar and Beswick did likewise on 13 after the ball was scrambled away by the Town defence.
More Lambs pressure forced a corner on the right on 20 which resulted in another, and then another following two deflections.
It was put behind for another flag kick, this time on the left but Walters kick was too long for anyone and it went out for a throw on the far side.
A freekick from Beswick on 25 forced Conway to push the ball round his left hand post, and from the flag kick Meikle struck for goal but missed the target.
The Lambs captain picked up a booking for a foul on the halfway line on 31 and after that Tamworth struggled to forge a path towards goal, whilst containing St Ives to a handful of forays towards Singh’s box and half time came without further incident.

HT: Tamworth 0    0 St Ives Town

Tamworth made a change and The Saints restarted proceedings and on 52 The Lambs had the first chance of the half when Walters pulled the ball back from the left for Graham but his shot span off his boot wide of the near post.
Solkhon got a rare shot away for the visitors on 54, striking it diagonally past the left hand near upright from the left of the box, and Beswick struck the ball on the volley at the other end but his strike cannon back off the covering defenders.
Graham was unlucky not to connect with Walters left sided low cross after a flowing move out of midfield. St Ives took the lead on 57 through Richards strike from inside the area off a right sided corner (0-1, 57 mins) but The Lambs went straight back down the other end from the restart and Tonks was brought down by Hicks in the area giving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Beswick stepped up and netted the spot kick to level the tie with a firm strike past Conway (1-1, 59 mins)
Hotter brought Graham down mid mazy run on 65 and was booked for his troubles, setting up Beswick from 35 yards but it came to nothing and The Lambs made their two final changes. A long throw from Tonks fell for Magunda at the far post but his shot was blocked and cleared setting up another throw from the other side which McDonagh struck but Conway saved.
The visitors had a couple of freekicks as the 10 minute mark came into view and the second forced a corner on the right. St Ives kept the ball in the final third and Gyasi pulled it back from the left for Seymour-Shove to fire home from 6 yards and give the visitors the lead again. (1-2, 82 mins)
After heading a long through from Tonks on the left onto the bar, Gough got his rewards on 86 with a long range strike past Conway into bottom left corner to level the tie (2-2, 86 mins)
And then on 89 Graham finished a move down the left which saw Walters pull back strike the foot of the post and fall kindly for the Lambs number 7, 6 yards out. (3-2, 89 mins)
Hotter was sent off following a second yellow card in added time, and from the freekick McDonald fired low past the wall and under Conway into the back of the net to made it 4-2 at the final whistle.
