No goals, but it's now 13 unbeaten

FT: Tamworth 0    0 Forest Green Rovers

16 August 2005

Lambs' boss Mark Cooper said after his side's goalless draw at The Lamb: "The lads know they didn't play tonight. The final ball into the box wasn't there and our set pieces didn't deliver either.

"There is more pressure at home and FGR were a different side to Aldershot. I was not pleased with the performance, but have to be pleased with four out of six points. If we had drawn at Aldershot and won tonight it may have looked better results on paper, but it's a good start and one we will build on."

Tamworth started with the same line up as at Aldershot, minus Scott Stamps who couldn't make the game due to family illness, but it was Forest Green who had the early chances with Gadsby and Rendell going close.

Hugh McAuley's ball crossfield to Simon Hollis almost brought a Lambs' goal, but Hollis' right foot volley whistled over the corner of bar and post.

Former Lamb Sekani Simpson then fired wide before McAuley beat the keeper but also the left hand upright with a dipping shot.

Teixeira saw his shot blocked by Aaron Brown immediately after the restart while Tamworth's Julian Alsop almost bagged a goal on his return to The Lamb only to see his close range effort stopped by the feet of goalkeper Ryan Clarke.

Scott Rendell brought the best out of Lambs' 'keeper James Dormand on 58 minutes when it seemed that the Forest Green player had rounded him while at the other end Brown headed a McAuley free kick wide.
McAuley was again involved setting up Alsop on 66 only for his header to go straight into the arms of Clarke.

Bob Taylor came into the game on 68 to change the formation from 4-5-1 to a more attacking 4-3-3 / 4-4-2 and another chance went by thanks to the agility of Clarke when faced with the former West Brom striker.

Forest Green's Jon Beswetherick received his second yellow card of the game on 76 following a tackle on Jimmy Turner to leave the visitors a man short for the last 15 minutes but Tamworth were unable to break through and score the decisive goal.
