Lambs out of Trophy To Grecians

FT: Tamworth 0    3 Exeter City

05 February 2005

Tamworth manager Mark Cooper was fuming after his side's three goal reversal to this season's FA Cup heroes Exeter City.
"They are one of the best sides in the league and we gifted them a two-goal start. But some of the decisions today were, in my opnion, atrocious. It was a definite penalty and Marcus Ebdon was tripped in the build-up to their third goal. But we have to forget it now and look forward to next Saturday's must-win league game against Leigh RMI. I will be resting some players on Tuesday night with that game in mind. Sekani (Simpson) is struggling with his sciatica and Bob is still suffering from his stiff neck. Mark (Rawle) let us know this morning that he wouldn't be available today due to a thigh strain."

Tamworth got off to the worst possible start, allowing Sean Devine to curl his effort in off the post with just 64 seconds on the clock. 0-1
Cooper almost levelled the scores seconds later, but Scott Stamps' cross was just too long for him to head powerfully toward goal and Paul Jones in the Exeter goal saved easily.
Jake Edwards' effort whistled past Chris Neal's far post a minute later before Tamworth got some momentum going and searched for the equaliser.
Was it deliberate?
On the half hour mark, Sekani Simpson, working hard on the right of the field, tried to pull the ball into the area only to see it seemingly strike the hand of Alex Jeannin. No penalty was given, and Exeter broke to the other end where Scott Hiley crossed for unmarked Andy Taylor to power a header past Neal. 0-2

Neal did well to parry a shot from Dean Moxey with five first half minutes remaining, and Matt Redmile almost got the Lambs on the scoresheet second before the break with a header from a Bampton cross that went just wide.

The second half was a much less action packed 45 minutes by comparison until James Francis's shot on target fell to Bob Taylor at the far post but the corner of the post and bar denied him his 15th of the season.

With 12 minutes to go Jake Edwards scored his side's third goal after dispossessing Marcus Ebdon in midfield. Ebdon appeared to be tripped but the referee waved play on and despite Neal blocking his initial close range shot, the ball ran free and Edwards scored into an empty net. 0-3
