Ravens send Lambs out of Cup

FT: Tamworth 1    3 Coalville Town

01 October 2019

Tamworth’s first cup match of the week saw Coalville make the short journey to The CR MOT Community Stadium at The Lamb for the League Cup Frist Round and the teamsheet showed a number of changes from the squad that defeated Royston in the League at the weekend.

Coalville got the game underway, attacking the Castle End in the first half with former Lambs keeper Sean Bowles in goal and midfielder Charlie Jemson in the Ravens starting line up and both sides featured just two of their starting elevens from the matches on Saturday in the League.
A ball from the right by Aromolaran was met by McGlinchey on 3 and it went just wide of the left hand upright past Walton in the Tamworth goal.
A decent through ball from Thomas on 8 split the Lambs back line but Mitchell was unable to get his shot from the right of the box anywhere near the target for the visitors.
Taylor was spoken to for a foul on Clement inside the Coalville half on 11 and at the other end Hoenes tried a long range shot but it curled harmlessly wide of the mark.
Aromolaran sliced a shot from the right of the area up and over the target on 13.
Another foul on Clement, this time 25 yards from goal, set up Hoenes and he curled his freekick just wide of the left hand post.
The next action came on 27 when the ball fell to Clement from a corner and his shot deflected past the far post.
From the resulting flagkick Creaney’s header was pushed onto the bar and eventually cleared. Walton was called into action on 32 to tip Mitchell’s strike from the left of the box over the bar as Coalville pushed forwards.
At the other end, Hoenes found Clement on the edge of the box on 36 but his curled strike was a foot or so over the target. Coalville pushed on towards the 40th minute and forced a couple of corners, the second of which saw Walton punch away.
Good work from Hoenes saw him work his way into the box on 41 but he shot was put behind for a corner on the left but it was the visitors that took the lead on 42.
Ambris lost the ball on the Lambs right and it made it’s way to Mitchell who unleashed a rasping drive in off the bar past Walton (0-1, 42 mins) and the Coalville ended the half on top by the solitary goal.

HT: Tamworth 0    1 Coalville Town

Tamworth restarted proceedings and on 47 Creaney span on the edge of the box and fired a low shot just past the post.
A crunching 50/50 tackle between Somel and Taylor on 57 in front of the Home dugout ended with The Lambs man seeing red, a decision which didn’t please the Lambs faithful in the Shed.
Coalville took advantage within 5 minutes when a partially blocked goalkick from Bowles found Browne and he pulled it back for Aromolaran to fire home from 18 yards. (0-2, 62 mins)
Mitchell then forced Walton into a save from his angled shot before both subs made a number of changes. Creaney pulled one back with 15 to play from Hoenes’ left wing cross to the far post which Creaney directed past Bowles with a well placed header (1-2, 75 mins)
Browne could only watch his goalbound shot from 6 yards cleared away off the line on 77.
Pegg was pulled to the floor by the tunnel on 80 and Clement’s freekick came to nothing, but another foul on the same player by Berridge went unpunished, with the player already on a yellow card.
Clement’s freekick looked to be heading in for an equaliser but Bowles smashed it off the line and it was cleared out of the box.
Browne struck the far post with a right footed drive on 89, and although he didn’t hit the back of the net McGlinchey did in the next move, tapping home at the far post, unmarked (1-3, 89 mins) and Coalville progressed to the next round when the final whistle blew.
