Lambs make it two out of two...

FT: Tamworth 1    0 Crawley Town

23 October 2004Marcus Ebdon's 4th minute strike was enough to separate the two sides at the Lamb and coupled with a hard working, never say die attitude the Lambs rose two league places, although the peristant heavy rain contributed to the lower than expected crowd.

Shaun Harrad was fouled on the right hand side, just out of the area and Lee Colkin's free kick came out to Ebdon 15 yards out to fire home through a crowded box.

Tamworth were finding the going easier in the wet conditions and strung numerous moves together but the closest they came to increasing their lead was in the 41st minute when Scott Stamps struck Edbon's cross field pass into the arms of Crawley 'keeper Phil Smith.

The visitors piled on the pressure at the start of the second half and Dave Robinson had to be quick to clear Paul Armstrong's deflected shot off the line on 53 minutes.

Shaun Harrad left the field on 59 minutes, to rapturous applause as he bade farewell to the Lamb (he is returning to Notts County), for Tris Whitman.
Bob Taylor and Whitman started to link well up front but it was Crawley who gave the Lambs a scare with 10 to go.

Danny Marney's slippery shot was spilled by Price and Allan Tait should have done a lot better from close range but pushed his shot past the left upright from the right of goal.

Whitman may well have made it 2-0 in the dying minutes but was penalised for a foul when he appeared to have jinked past the last defender just inside Crawley's half when a one on one with Smith was a certainty.

Price, Smith A., Colkin Y, Redmile Y, Ebdon 1(Storer 80), Harrad (Whitman 59), Simpson, Stamps, Cooper, Robinson, Taylor

Manager Mark Cooper said after the game "It was a sold performance and it is great to have kept another clear sheet. The 3-4-1-2 system appears to be working well and suits our squad. We chisled out the result today, kept up with our high work rate and although they did give us a scare the lads have shown that they are prepared to give it all for 90 minutes."
"I've had to release Marvin Brown due to budget constraints, and Aaron Brown, who i feel needs a bit more experience, has gone to Stafford on loan. Dave Robinson is cup tied next week having played for Grantham in a previous round, but we should be ok at the back. What we're after is a striker to replace Shaun (Harrad)."
