Five star Lambs shine in the sun

FT: Tamworth 5    0 Leiston

20 April 2019

In glorious sunshine and 20 degree heat for the penultimate home game of the season and the visit of The Blues of Leiston The Lambs were forced to make a change as Kyron Stabana had been recalled by AFC Wimbledon.
Ryan Beswick returned to the starting eleven after a week out through injury and Chris Lait’s name was on the team sheet for the first time since he was unable to continue at Redditch a few games previously. Look at the Netbet bonus code for great offers.

Prior to kick off Gary Smith and Andy Danylyszyn were presented with the February Team of the Month trophy by a representative from the Southern League and the teams ran out with some Mini and Junior Lambs.
Tamworth started the game attacking the Meadow Street end in the first half and both sides started brightly although it was probably The Lambs that had the majority share in the opening minutes .
On 5 Clement got into the right of the box but his low shot was deflected into the six yard box and Gordon pounced and turned but somehow Beckwith blocked his shot with his chest and the visitors cleared the danger.
A deep left sided cross from the visitors was met by the head of Hitter and a minute later Tamworth were in the lead.
Gordon had been causing problems up front and spotted an opening from 25 yards, so struck the ball low and past Beckwith into the bottom right corner (1-0, 12 mins)
Kettle was unable to continue after treatment on 22 and so Gough replaced him, pushing Magunda into the centrehalf position and handing Beswick the captains armband.
Magunda was forced to head a cross behind for a left sided corner on 28 and Dunbar made a run to set up Davies on 29.
His shot looked goalbound but Singh was in no mood to be beaten and dropped and pushed it around the post, the visitors got a head on the ball from the corner but it looped high over the target.
Tamworth responded with an attack and a couple of corners, but Maphosa was unable to direct his header under pressure on target.
Gough forced another flag kick on 34 which Beswick planted onto the head of Waite but it was travelling quickly and the striker was unable to get his effort on target.
The game had a strong feel of a pre-season friendly about it in the closing stages of the half and ended without further incident.

HT: Tamworth 1    0 Leiston

After making a change Leiston restarted proceedings but The Lambs extended their lead on 47 when Concannon whipped in a cross from the left and flicked off the head of the Leiston defender. It appeared to go in off the defender and rebound out to Maphosa who make no mistake of burying the ball from the 'rebound' from 6 yards out (2-0, 47 mins)
Maphosa was booked for a high boot on Hammond on 55 and Lwarence picked one up for a similar tackle on Green on the halfway line on the hour.
Harrison James and Lait replaced Clement and Waite respectively on 62 and Lait nearly added to the scoreline with a low shot on 63 but Beckwith was able to push it around the post for a corner which evaded the boots of both sides in the box.
Hammond hit a well timed volley over the target on 65 but Tamworth quickly doubled their lead through Concannon and then Lait.
Concannon finished a shot that came off the bar from Gordon after the latter had robbed the keeper of a high ball and tried to beat the keeper but found the woodwork in his way. (3-0, 72 mins)
Lait’s 20th goal of the season was more straightforward and came from a right footed strike from 18 yards. (4-0, 73 mins)
Hammond’s looped header forced Singh to push the ball over the bar for a Leiston corner on 78 and the keeper rose to grab the flagkick at height.
Concannon made a run into the visitors box on 84 but found his path blocked and at the other end Hammond struck a low shot which Singh parried.
Lait added another to his tally on 85, taking the ball around a defender and the keeper on the left of the area before rolling it into the empty net. (5-0, 85 mins)
Concannon and Lait then tested Beckwith with efforts from 18 yards and the keeper did well to parry the goalbound shots on both occasions.
