Lambs send Saints packing

FT: Tamworth 5    0 St Neots Town

09 February 2019

After a week off due to the postponement at Hitchin the previous Saturday interim bosses Gary Smith and Andy Danylyszyn took the reigns for the second time.
Jas Singh returned to the side after injury at Alvechurch at the end of December and Claudio Dias and Chris Lait returned to the starting eleven, also after recent injuries.

The Lambs got the game underway attacking the Castle End in the first half and started brightly with a early ball into Lait which he back-headed over the visitors bar.
Lait made a strong run past defender into the box on 4 but was foiled by keeper Iron and the same player made light work of things in the Saints right back position on 5 but struck over the target.
On 8 Concannon rolled a shot wide of the right hand post and it wasn’t until the 16th minute that Iron was called into action when he punched Beswick’s freekick away from danger.
A right sided corner from Beswick on 21 was punched clear and despite The Lambs keeping up the pressure the flag denied Lait a chance of a close range header.
Green picked up a booking for bringing Norville-Williams down on the left of the box on 23 and Lait blocked the subsequent freekick. Lait’s low shot deflected to Concannon on 32 but his stabbed shot was easy for Iron.
Gough struck a true left footed volley on 35 and beat Iron but it hit the post and it rebounded across the face of goal and out and Dias went close with an effort from 25 yards which dropped over the bar and drew appreciation from the partisan crowd.
A strong run from Lait out of midfield ended with a low shot, off balance, which went wide of the left hand upright on 40. Norville-Williams had the first real shot for the visitors on 41, a long range effort which went wide of the right hand post.
The Lambs finally made a breakthrough on 44 when Concannon received the ball in the box, dragged it down, turned and rifled it past Iron in the roof of the net to open the scoring (1-0, 44 mins)
Lait then made it 2-0 with a shot into the floor which bounced up and over the keeper and into the far right of the goal, shortly before the half time whistle blew.

HT: Tamworth 2    0 St Neots Town

St Neots restarted proceedings and The Lambs forced an early corner on the right on 47 which Beswick sent into the box and although the visitors cleared it went for another which caused more problems before a defensive boot put it out of play. A rare shot from St Neots saw Pollock fire low into the arms of Singh on 52.
At the other end Lait made a good run from right to left and his shot was pushed over the bar for a corner. Lait eventually got the ball back from the flag kick and fired it home with power from 12 yards to make it 3-0 on 55.
Green floated a dangerous cross towards the far post on 62 but it dropped just past the target and out for a goalkick. After Clement had fired past the far post with a low effort on 64 Smith replaced Dias on 65 and then Waite saw his shot deflected for a corner on 67 and Smith powered home a far post header from the flag kick to make it 4-0 (67 mins).
Two minutes later Smith made it 5-0 with a similarly powerful header, this time from a Lait cross on the right. (5-0, 69 mins) St Neots forced a corner on 79 which came to nothing and Janaai Gordan came on for his league debut on 81.
Gordan forced a right sided corner on 84 and Smith’s header nearly made it 6-0 but The Saints cleared their lines.
Lait nearly notched his hattrick on 86 but was prevented by the visiting defence and Singh was forced to protect his goalline from a shot from Bissett-Clarke.
Another Lambs corner came on 87 but Smith’s header was blocked, and then Green tried his luck but it deflected out for a corner on the left in the last action of the game before the final whistle blew on the highest home victory since August 2016.
