Lambs comeback for a deserved point

FT: Leiston 2    2 Tamworth

25 August 2018

The Lambs travelled to Victory Road to face Suffolk side Leiston in their fourth game of the 2018-19 season looking for their first three point haul of the campaign.
The management duo of Harris and Fowler made a couple of changes to the starting eleven from the defeat to King’s Lynn and The Lambs got the game underway.
Finn struck from distance and watched it curl over the top of the bar in the 3rd minute and in the fifth Hammond tried his luck from 20 yards.
Leiston took the lead on seven via a long ball from the keeper, flicked on and sprinted on to by Reed to fire home from 18 yards past Singh (0-1, 7 mins)
Tamworth forced quickly forced a corner to try and put some pressure on Garnham’s goal but a clash of heads between two Leiston players halted play for a short time.
A Jack Russell scampering on at Garnham’s end stopped play for an amusing moment on 19 and on 21 Dunkley was pulled down trying to control a ball forward from Paul Green. Lait took the freekick and drilled it low and hard but wide of the left hand post without intervention from anyone.
Kristian Green was adjudged to have brought down Finch on the left wing on 24 and Lawrence’s ball fell to Blake but he mishit it. Lawrence picked up the loose ball and struck straight at Singh in the ensuing play.
Play had to be halted when Upton was unable to continue and was helped from the field before being replaced by Kettle on 29. A shot from the right of the area by Blake was allowed to go wide of his near post by Singh, Lawrence then curled a freekick from 20 yards over the bar on 32 after Paul Green had been booked for putting a tackle in from behind as the home side advanced on Sign’s area.
Leiston made it 2-0 on 38 via a penalty from Finch after Blaney had brought his man down in the box giving the referee a simple decision to make. (0-2, 38 mins)
The home side forced a corner deep into added time at the end of the half with a deflected shot form Blake and it was cleared but twice worked back into the final third and Paul Green did well to head it over his own bar before Reed could stop to head it home at the near post.

HT: Leiston 2    0 Tamworth

Tamworth made two changes at the break with Asante coming back in after injury, and Beswick making his debut after signing in the summer.
Leiston restarted proceedings and The Lambs played with a more purposeful feeling about them but despite the increased presence in the middle of the park and up front it took until the 57th minute for Lait to get close to the box and when he did Knights was booked for a late challenge.
The ball went out to Finn and his shot was blocked by Hammond when it looked like it would fly into net. Waite was then brought down and Beswick drilled the freekick on target but Garnham punched it clear.
Tamworth pulled one back when Lait picked up the ball on the left and cut along the edge of the area before drilling it low past Garnham to reduce the arrears on 61 (1-2)
A deep Dunkley cross from the right was taken by Garnham under pressure from Asante on 63 and at the other end of 72 Singh punched a dangerous corner away from danger.
Waite did extremely well to get the ball down and around his marker on the left on 80 and he rolled it back to Asante to power home from 18 yards out and into the back of the net.
Lait looked to pick his spot on 84 forcing Garnham into a one handed save and Singh dropped low to smother a downward header from Reed with five to play.
Leiston’s left wing caused problems and both Kettle and Beswick saw yellow in as the minutes ticked down and then Waite and Wright had half chances go wide of the mark before the final whistle blew on a real game of two halves.
