Lambs strike twice to sink City

FT: Tamworth 2    1 Coventry City XI

24 July 2018

The Lambs welcomed a Sky Blues U23 side to The Lamb for a pre season run out 24 hours after the hottest day of the year.

In the low July sun, and with the temperature definitely a few degrees lower than it had been both sides moved the ball around well in the early exchanges.
Walters and Asante had efforts on target before the 10 minute mark, and on 12 Kettle headed home a left sided corner to put The Lambs 1-0 up (1-0, 12 mins)
On 20 the City number 9 sprinted through onto a floated pass and went one on one with Singh who made himself big and denied the shot with his outstretched hands.
The Lambs number 9 made it two with a finish from a corner on 35 (2-0, 35 mins) and two minutes later Paul Green replaced Upton who had picked up an injury a few minutes earlier.
Singh denied Eccles snap shot from 18 yards on 44 with a smart save before the whistle blew for a much needed break.

HT: Tamworth 2    0 Coventry City XI

The second half started with no changes, but Sharpe was forced from the field on 50 holding his knee and replaced by a trialist.
Stedman finished good work down the left by his teammate to pull the ball into his path in the area and he rolled his shot home, inside the far post (2-1, 60 mins)
The Lambs number 9 did well to set himself up for a shot on 63 but lifted his effort over the keeper and the bar.
City’s number 9 beat his man and lashed a shot over the bar from not too far out on 68. Kettle’s header form a corner went into the ground the wide of the mark on 70 and on 73 Pegg went through but was denied by Addai.
Singh parried a shot from number 10 then number 11 in quick succession as the minutes ticked down and despite a close call at Singh’s end where the Lambs defence allowed the Coventry forward to race through while everyone left it to go out, and a super save to deny Paul Green’s low strike the final whistle blew on another friendly win.
