Lambs nail pre-season victory

FT: Belper Town 0    2 Tamworth

17 July 2018A Tuesday night trip into Derbyshire saw The Lambs take on Belper in their third pre-season run out.
East Mill stood as a backdrop along the town side of the ground as always, and in the warm summer sunshine on a pitch that had swathes of green where others didn’t and Tamworth got the game underway.
Belper started the game quickly, Dunkley was brought down 30 yards out and Paul Green chipped it forward for Verma to head it to former Lambs U21 keeper Max Beardsmore.
The Nailers continued to press without really threatening Singh as the game continued and on 19 Kristian Green was forced to use his fellow defenders to get out of trouble but the Belper no. 2 got it back and lifted his shot over the bar.
At the other end The Lambs no. 9 had sight on goal but he sliced it wide and Beardmore dropped on 21 to smother a low Dunkley effort.
A drinks break on 25 allowed the players to recharge and from a Belper corner on 28 a clash of heads meant Sharpe needed to leave the field, but was OK to continue.
Indeed, Walters whipped a low shot from the right of the box just wide of the near post in the next move after good work from the left back.
Walters then made space for himself and powered another shot at Beardmore on 31 which the keeper dropped to save on his line.
Dunkley’s low shot from 18 yards down the right forced another stop from Beardmore on 33 as The Lambs slowly but surely worked themselves into the game.
Verma opened the scoring after picking up the ball in the box, using his body strength to turn his defender in the left of the box and rifle his shot past Beardmore inside the far corner (1-0, 38 mins)
Green and Dunkley combined down the right on 42 and it was met by the head of no.9 but it bounced wide of the left hand upright and out for a goal kick.
Shaw struck a long range effort a couple of yards wide of the right hand post on 45 and Walters forced a left sided corner in the 45th minute which went out to Shaw and his ball into the box was inches away from the head of the number 9 shortly before the whistle blew for the break.

HT: Belper Town 0    1 Tamworth

Belper made four changes at the break to The Lambs none and restarted proceedings as the sun dropped behind the houses away for the left behind Singh’s goal.
The home side put pressure on Tamworth as they had in the opening exchanges in the first half. But in the 57th minute Beardmore tripped no. 9 and conceded penalty which the striker placed past him from the spot to make it 2-0. (2-0, 57 mins)
Kristian Green’s ball to Walters in the left of the area resulted in a good strike which just cleared the far corner of bar and post on the hour.
The Lambs made a couple of changes shortly after and Paul Green struck a low shot from distance wide of the mark, past the left hand post on 65.
Kettle made way for Upton for the final 20 minutes and a clean break through for the home side came on 76 when a defence splitting ball beat the back line but Daniels’ shot was quite easily parried by Singh.
Beardmore was equal to a powerful shot at his near post from trialist no. 15 on 84 after good build up play down the right involving Sharpe and the final whistle blew on a decent midweek run out.
