Whitman fires 90th minute winner to sink Seadogs

FT: Tamworth 1    0 Scarborough

16 October 2004Tris Whitman came off the bench to secure Tamworth their first home victory for 5 games. And Mark Cooper's experiment with a new formation of 3-4-1-2 paid off as the Lambs secured a vital three points.

Cooper's 5th minute shot was blocked following a deliberate handball by the Scarborough 'keeper and although Tamworth found it hard to get through the last line of defence at times they were on top from then on.
Dave Robinson was desparately unlucky with a diving header that flew over the bar on 21 and then 3 chances fell the Lambs' way witihin the space of a minute.
Ebdon's free kick from the left fell to Redmile who should have netted but saw 'keeper Walker tip round the post. From the corner Robinson's effort came back off the line and forced a nother corner which was met by Redmile but came back off the bar.
Neil Redfearn tested Price's reflexes with a thundering shot that Price "only saw the last 6 yards of" in the Seadlogs only effort of the half on 44.

Tamworth continued to edge it and Whitman, replacing Harrad up front, worked hard with Bob Taylor to get the winner.
Taylor's best chances came in the 83rd minute but his shot on the turn was somehow deflected wide by Walker and in the 89th when his shot across the face of goal hit the far upright and trickled out to be cleared.
But it was left to super-sub Whitman tp pounce on a Redmile knockdown after Cooper had headed the ball from Stamp's last minute corner to raise the roof on the Lamb.

Price, Smith (Brown A. 82), Redmile, Ebdon, Harrad (Whitman 64), Simpson, Stamps, Cooper, Robinson, Taylor Brown M. (Storer 68)
